SharpReader 0.9.3.1

SharpReader 0.9.3.1 is now available for download at sharpreader.net.

This version contains two bugfixes, one of which had the potential of losing all saved items in a feed upon refresh. If you are currently running SharpReader 0.9.3, I recommend you upgrade to 0.9.3.1 ASAP to fix this bug.

New version of SharpReader released
Version 0.9.3.1 of SharpReader has been released. It fixes a bunch of problems and increased memory footprint and startup times. If you are a user of SharpReader, you should upgrade. Mad props to Luke Hutteman....

Thanks for the new version of Sharp Reader.

Just in case you're looking for features wishlists, here's my current list:
1) a way to turn off the "toast" alerts. I only start up SharpReader a few times a day and when I do, I'm inundated with alerts.
2) with changed/updated items - a way of displaying what the differences are
3) a search mechanism. Preferably one that displays an exhaustive list of all the matches.

Thanks for writing a handy program.

I'm experiencing a strange problem with the space bar selection. I use it to go up the list, so that I read things in chronological order. When I use the spacebar to go to the next new post in a feed that has several new posts, Sharpreader selects the top item in the list in addition to the bottom item.

Mark: (1) and (3) are already implemented. you can turn off all toast alarms through the properties pane of the root-tree-node ("Subscribed Feeds") and you can search through #R's Filter functionality (Ctrl-Alt-F).

tamaracks: sounds like a small bug in the multi-select funtionality - I'll look into it - thanx!

It seems the toasters appear in the original position on the monitor from the topleft, when you change the resolution on your monitor, without restarting sharpreader.

Repro:
set monitor resolution to 640 x 480.
start sharpreader.
set monitor resolution to something bigger and wait for the toasts to appear mid-screen.

Wow, nice thing those alerts! Keep on good work!!! ;)

Luke thanks for the for pointers. I guess I never tried the Filter. How does the filter work? Does it support regex? If not does the order of the words matter?

Thanks again for the help

Hey Luke, thanks so much for the update. I've got a weirdness going on with 0.9.3.1, for some reason I can't restore the window, I can only maximize or minimize. Has anybody else seen this? Is there a workaround? Thanks in advance.

I feel kinda guilty of asking for an enhancement (since ideally I should just roll up my sleeeves and do it myself), but I was wondering if it would be too much trouble to enable the functionality so that you could run SharpReader in the background. In other words, you could click on 'X' (CLOSE) or the '_' (Minimize) icons on the titlebar and it would go quietly sit in the System Tray without taking up precious space on the taskbar.

Thx

Jeffrey, try restoring SharpReader, then right-click the button on the task bar and choose "move", then use your arrow keys to guide it back onto the screen. This happens to me occassionally with some programs so it may be your problem too: for some reason the program restores to a position off the visible screen.

Anand, if you click on the X for close, it will minimize to the system tray as an icon. Well, the icon is always there. If you click on the _ for minimize, then it will minimize to the task bar.

Luke - Small feature request: Can you make SharpReader REMEMBER my sort order on my sort column in the headlines?

Posted by Brian Hampson at November 13, 2003 12:44 PM

Hate to say this Luke but I'm running 0.9.3.1 and it just nuked almost all the entries in all the blogs. I went from hundreds of entries to about 30. Sounds like the bug you fixed only it's not fixed on my system. Running Win2ksp4 + IE6 w/all updates.

Still love SharpReader though.

Is there a way to reset the feeds so I can at least pull the latest entries. Right now it won't pull anything I already had. Now almost all my feeds read (0/0) and I know there's got to be something I could pull down. Maybe this is a feature request...

Quick wish list item:

Add a back button in the view pane to move back a page. Many times I browse into an RSS page and then need to get back where i was. Typically I use the right click back functionality.

Hey Luke, Sharpreader is great. However, a problem persists and have been there for as long as I have used Sharpreader: It cannot remember the position of the window and refuses to start fully maxmized.... Can you help? I think others have reported this before.

Posted by Helmut at November 17, 2003 6:37 AM

Wish/BugFix: Please expand (and especially scroll) the list view due to clicking on a +/- in the MouseUp or MouseClick event, so that it doesn't change the selection or start a lassoo selection when scrolling occurs. (This problem existed in the previous version as well.)
